Aftercare advice

Thank you for choosing Temple Piercing please read the following instructions  carefully.

Settling period

For the first 24 hours you don't need to do anything with your new piercing just allow it to settle.

After 24 hours

Now take your caflon piercing solution, remove the lid and use the dropper pipette to apply a few drops of solution to both sides of your piercing, then allow to air dry. Continue applying for a week both morning and night. Only use externally on lip piercings.

Crusting

You may see a small amount of crusting build up around your new piercing this is perfectly normal and should be left in place as this is essentially your piercings scab and is protecting it from bacteria and risk of infection.

The first week

Your new piercing maybe slightly red, sore and possibly a little itchy you may also notice a small amount of clear liquid coming from the piercing site, this is all normal however if this continues for more than a week there could be an issue with your piercing, please contact us if this is the case.

Leave your piercing alone

It is very important that you DO NOT pick, play or turn your new piercing also avoid using makeup on the piercing site. The trick to getting piercings healed with minimal issues is to simply leave them alone as much as possible.

Let your piercing have air

Let your new piercing get as much air as possible, if you've had your belly button pierced it's advisable to wear loose fitting clothes such as joggers to avoid pressing on the bar and causing disruption to the piercing.

Swapping the bar

Sometimes a shorter bar maybe required once the initial swelling period is over usually around two weeks this is included in our service. Likewise on occasions a longer bar maybe needed should your new piercing swell excessively. If the balls have sunken in to the piercing site this is an indication a longer bar is required .

Migration

Navel, surface and eyebrow piercings are more prone to migration than other piercings. An indication that this maybe happening will be if you can see the bar under the skin, the area is red inflamed and sore with a possible irritation bumb. Please contact us as soon as possible if you suspect this is happening.

Infection

Sometimes on rare occasions piercings can become infected a good indication that this is happening is yellow or greenish fluid coming from the piercing site along with redness soreness and throbbing if this is happening it is very important that you contact us immediately as it's highly likely that we'll need to remove your piercing.

Healing time

Healing time varies from person to person however having said that most people's lobes will healed after around six weeks. Ear cartilage piercings take a little longer and are usually healed in 3 months. Lip and nose piercings normally take around 10 to 12 weeks. Once you feel that your piercings are  healed please pop in to the studio and we'll check them for you just to make sure they're healed and ready to be changed.

Lip piercings

Lip piercings tend to swell more than other piercings, to allow for this your lip will have been pierced on quite a long bar its recommend that you come back to Temple piercing once the initial swelling has gone down usually in around two weeks. The cost of fitting your new bar is included, It's also very important to keep your mouth clean during the healing period please make sure that you swill your mouth out with a saline solution made using rock salt and bottled water after every mealtime.

Piercing solution

This product is for external use and should only be applied to the outside of the piercing site. We also recommend using an organic chemical free toothpaste should you have had any lip piercings. Also try to avoid letting your new piercing come in yo contact with makeup.

Nose piercing tips

We recommend putting a plaster over your nose piercing for the first week before you go to bed this prevents it coming out during the night. Once the piercing settles in there's much less chance of this happening. Should this occur try and put the jewellery back in yourself if you are unable to do so please pop in to the studio and we'll pop it back in for you. Also be careful when drying  your face not to knock your piercing and avoid going near it with make up.

Keeping your piercing dry

We advise that you minimise contact with water where possible for the first two and avoid swimming for a month especially regarding belly button piercings.
